G-CHS Student Leadership Academy Coming together is a begining,

Mission
  • To nurture leadership skills by cultivating both present and future leaders.
  • To develop a diversified leadership base for the school.
  • To educate students in effective leadership skills.
  • To motivate individuals to reach their potential.
  • To create a strong leadership environment for students and staff.
Goals
  • Increase spirit, enjoyment and involvement of leaders in various school programs.
  • Encourage leaders to become role models.
  • Assist leaders with developing methods of effectively leading school and community organizations.
  • Provide service opportunities within the school and community .
  • Promote teamwork within different organizations at school and community.
Team Projects
Student Leadership Academy members participate in several activities that help enhance leadership and team building skills.
SLA members assist at animal shelter
Carnival of fun for special student guest.
Role models for younger students.
Community Service
  • Each Team conducts a community service project during the school year. Up to two hours can be counted for community service hours per individual.
  • Half of the service hours are due by the December meeting , the other half by the April meeting.
  • Members may also do some school service hours for community service.
Membership
  • Students complete an application for membership in SLA .
  • The Academy’s Executive Board consist of student members, faculty members, and the principal.
  • Students selected by the Board for membership pay $25 fee to offset the cost of T-shirts, food, and guest speakers.
  • Third and fourth year members are eligible to apply for Leaders to Go, LTG members conduct community workshops in leadership and are the instructors for our freshmen leadership program" Pathfinders.”

Graduation Requirements

Service Hours
First year—6 hours
Second year –8 hours
Third year– 10 hours
Fourth year—12 hours
All members are expected to attend all scheduled meetings. One excused absence is allowed either for a full Academy meeting or team meeting. Any other missed meetings are to be made up through community service hours during the same month as the absence.
